Launching Dream Careers:
RTS Alum Spotlight Jairo
Jairo, an RTS Alum and a recent class of 24′ graduate, is starting his new career journey with Honeycomb as a software engineer! But, the path to this career wasn’t always clear for Jairo.
When Jairo joined Ready to Succeed in 2020 as a students at Cal State Dominguez Hills, he was eager but uncertain about how to launch his career. He had so many questions: “Where do I find internships? How should I format my resume? How do I prepare for a software engineering interview?” As a computer science major with a demanding workload, he felt the pressure building—and had no one to turn to for answers.
That’s where you came in. As soon as Jairo connected with Ready to Succeed, he found exactly what he needed: community. Through resume-building workshops, one-on-one career advising, and a network of scholars and professionals in the software industry, RTS provided him with the resources to thrive.
His advisors encouraged him to stay persistent in his job search. They reminded him to be relentless until he found the right opportunity.
“During my junior year, the job search felt overwhelming. I applied to over 130 positions with no success—I felt hopeless. But I can’t thank my RTS career advisor enough. Their constant motivation throughout the school year, along with the mock interviews we practiced, gave me the courage to keep going. And it paid off!”
Since joining Honeycomb in July, Jairo’s favorite aspect has been being a part of the entire product creation process. From the initial idea to the final result.
“Just being with this new company and creating a product and seeing it grow from an idea to fruition is incredible. And to be a part of that is something I am truly grateful for,” Jairo expressed.
His journey was not easiest however. The interview process included a written test, coding assessment, and a live behavioral interview. All in a 4 hour window!
But with the help of his RTS career advisor, he had the resources, interview practice, and the confidence to knock it out of the park. The sky’s the limit for Jairo’s future as a software engineer.
Thank you for uplifting scholars like Jairo.
