Meet Eddie, TikToker Extraordinaire and New Board Member
Please join us in welcoming Eddie Valcin, Public Figures and Content Partnership Lead at TikTok, to the board of directors! As a Miami native and Southern California transplant, Eddie makes a big impact wherever he goes. Eddie Valcin oversees public figures and content partnerships at Tik Tok. This month, we sat down with Eddie for a quick Q & A session to give you the inside scoop on our remarkable new leader and board member.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
I’ve been on a big fitness kick and have gone head first into mind and body training. I’m a huge sports fan! I probably watch too many sports. I consume the most random sports on ESPN. If there’s a cornhole tournament on, I will watch it.
Why did you choose to join the RTS board?
I was impressed by how meticulous and intentional they were in supporting our scholars, even caring for them after graduation. Even when RTS took on four times more scholars this year, the organization’s leadership ensured that every scholar was taken care of. I wanted to join the board so that I could be an even greater resource and help!
If you could choose anyone who is alive today and not a relative, with whom and where would you have lunch and why?
I would choose Queen Latifah and take her to Mandolin District, one of my favorite restaurants, in Miami. During my formative years, one of my favorite shows was Living Single. I loved watching her become a hip hop legend and a fantastic actor – she did it all. I would love a few minutes to break bread with her. Very rarely, would I have the opportunity to sit with a hip hop legend, broadway actress and singer – she almost has Whoopi Goldberg status!
Tell us about your career, past and present – what do you like most about what you do?
I was the head of experiences and events at Soho House for nearly a decade. During that time I was able to foster fantastic relationships in the entertainment space which helped me transition to TikTok where I oversee our partnerships with global athletes. This is my favorite part of the job – corresponding and working with the athletes who play the sports I’m so excited about. Athletes realize that I get it. I understand their training schedule and many other things someone outside of athletics might not know. They really find value in me knowing their behind-the-scenes experience.
Tell us something that most people don’t know about you.
I used to be a soloist in my church choir with my sisters. My sisters had most of the solos – they were way better than me! I spent a lot of time rehearsing with my sisters. Now, looking back, I’m very fond of the quality time I got to spend with my sisters.
